Endocrinology deals with the endocrine system which consists of several organs such as the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, adrenals, ovaries, testes, and pancreas. All of these glands secrete hormones into the blood. While endocrinology encompasses many issues, the most common are:
Diabetes Mellitus
Elevated / high blood sugar, which often results when the pancreas does not respond to the insulin that is produced. Common symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, increased hunger, and increased thirst.
Thyroid Disease
A medical condition in which the thyroid does not function properly. Examples include hypothyroidism (insufficient production of the proper hormones), hyperthyroidism (excessive production of the proper hormones), goiter (swelling in the neck associated with the thyroid), and tumors (growths).
